Easy Slow Cooker Beef Chili

October 11, 2019 / Lauren Langley / Leave a comment

Raise your hand if you love an easy and nutritious meal that also makes good leftovers!  Me too!  Beef chili has quickly made its way up my favorite list of meals.  I also love any recipe that I can put in the slow cooker and forget about until dinner time.  Ground beef to me is … Continue reading Easy Slow Cooker Beef Chili

Grilling Made Easy

July 8, 2019July 9, 2019 / Lauren Langley / Leave a comment

Grilling may seem a bit daunting to a beginner and it really shouldn't be!  I fell into the "too scared to grill" category not that long ago (like a few months ago).  In fact, I was downright afraid of the entire process but what really got me was the open flame.  I finally decided that … Continue reading Grilling Made Easy

Beef Education

April 29, 2019July 9, 2019 / Lauren Langley / Leave a comment

Did you know that the average American is at least three generations removed from the farm?  With such a disconnect between farmers and consumers, it is important that we (farmers, educators, industry) educate the public about how our food is grown and raised.  Not only do I teach producers how to raise livestock through my … Continue reading Beef Education

Beef is Nutritious

September 12, 2018July 9, 2019 / Lauren Langley / Leave a comment

Each year for the past 4 years, we have had one steer processed to provide our family with healthy and nutritious beef.  Choosing to finish a steer for our own beef was an easy decision.  We enjoy eating ground beef, steaks, roasts, and other cuts throughout the year and thought, how awesome would it be … Continue reading Beef is Nutritious

May is National (and North Carolina) Beef Month!  How are you going to be celebrating?  I know for my family we are going to eat beef and lots of it!  Now that the weather is warm we are firing up the grill each week with hamburgers and steak.  I still love a good slow cooker … Continue reading May is National Beef Month!

Can anyone else relate? I am so over hay feeding and winter already! Give me warmer temps and green grass already!! ☀️ 🌱 At least it’s Friday!!
I am convinced that the best days are those spent with family and cattle. Throw in some sunshine and decent temperatures on top of that and we are all smiles doing farm chores!
In the winter our cows receive all the hay they can eat, fresh water, minerals, and protein/energy supplements. This year we are feeding them two types of hay: fescue and peanut. North Carolina grows thousands of acres of peanuts each year which leaves a by-product of vines and leaves that can be made into dry hay. Peanut hay is a good source of fiber and protein making it a great choice. Quality can fluctuate year to year with weather and you have to watch out for too much soil being baled with the hay. Always buy from a reputable source and have the hay tested. We like feeding peanut hay because of the protein content and the cows really seem to enjoy it!
Happy New Year! 🎊
Life is always better #betweentheears of a #quarterhorse 🐴
There is just something special about a good farm dog. Dory wasn’t even supposed to happen but 3-ish years ago she found us through a friend and she has been an amazing companion for my dad on the farm. Dad lost his original farm dog, Tipper this year which was tough on all of us. Thankfully, sweet Dory has been there when we needed her the most. She is the happiest dog ever and is always by your side ready to go!
